Backyard Restaurant

Scout Notes: In a city dubbed “home of the 200-square-foot apartment,” most humble abodes come without a yard. So where do you go to kick back with a cocktail, chomp on grilled kielbasa, or putter on a patio frocked with foliage? Hold on to your garden gloves, there’s a new backyard in town. Nestled among the sundry shops on 5th Ave, Backyard is a brand spankin’ new hub of neighborhood cool. Tired of not having a green space to share good food with friends, owner Jeff and his wife Elizabeth opened the restaurant as a remedy. With an ever-changing menu of evolved bar food, Backyard serves up Pulled Pork Sliders slow cooked in house-made strawberry BBQ sauce and Fish Tacos topped with pineapple salsa. Even the specialty cocktails tote garden produce; the Prospect Park West Bramble couples gin and lemonade with homemade raspberry preserves. “We’re a yes kitchen,” says Alex-the-Bartender. “Regulars have a ton of influence on what goes on the menu.” Another thing dictated by patrons: closing time. Eat, linger, repeat. Kinda feels like your own backyard.
